Nothing personal - I'm just wondering what your motivation for all this is.
If I wanted my collection to increase in value :

1) I wouldnt have bought some of the artists that are in my collection

2) I would have contuinued to buy posters (virtually not buying anything these days)

3) I would not have voiced my disagreements with some of the most popular poster artists on this planet

4) I would have have sold some of my collection a year ago

5) I would not have supported some people financially with no expectations of anything in return

6) And I certainly wouldnt have bought seripop posters when they needed money ......... just kidding

I care because I love rock poster art ... nothing more and nothing less

there is no doubt in my mind you have done a lot to help the poster community and the API. all you do is bitch on the net and that gets nothing done.

And at least its on the radar screen now... and there is actually some serious discussion

And nothing that means anthing WILL get done UNTIL THE EUROPEANS GET INVOLVED.... that is whole point I am trying to make... they don't need me or API or Geoff or Tuffy... they need to do this themselves...

For jebus' sake... European artists need to send invitations out to American artists to attend a German postershow... not the other way around

too add another 2 cents ( i just can't shup up about this , can i?) but , we've spent a fair bit of time networking , collabing with , visiting studios of print artists in europe and one thing i've notticed is that the underground printmaking culture there is WAY more focused on bookss , comics and art prints rather than gig posters.
these things all seem to do very well in terms of sales , media attention , distribution and gallery exhibitions.

it seems very popular to publish collective screened books , i can think of many studios , expecially in france who do this.

many of the artists we are palz with in europe tend to spend most of their energy on these things and see posters as a small percentage of what they do.

thus , (and this is my speculating here) they may not identify with being "poster artists" the way many of us do.

Default books....

from seripop:

"...or that the american books tend to be american (instead of global) in focus."

I would like to remind you cloe,

our book ( eyesore ) had introductions in:

ENGLISH, German, French, and Italian.

If that's not global, I don't know what is.

The french took the american book (AOMR), and translated it and made it european.

Where's the not global part?

Well, one simple reason is, that there aren't that much gigposter artists in germany. Even if they make posters, it doesn't mean that this posters/flyers are screen-printed. It's mostly offest, which is becomming really cheap.
And when you see gigposters as another merch-thing, than this printing tecnique is nearly "worthless". Maybe i'm wrong but noone (even the API) wants to see offset posters at Flatstock...

the population of artists in the respective countries is a factor. Hell we have more rock poster makers in Austin than prolly any single country in Europe. For sure any single city.

And galleries over in Europe are extending invitations. We are showing at Slowboy this fall between the Tilburg show and Flatstock. Eventually we'll get our calendar lined up with Goodall and go back.

And this Euro Flatstock is almost full up and it's a nice balance between Euro and US artists. I think shit is happening over there more than you realize. Certainly more than can be gauged by participation at a single Flatstock.

This isn't the same discussion as when we put on the first Hamburg Flatstock. That was met with skepticism but I was there and I met all the Europeans and saw the genuine excitement and motivation to go home and keep pushing the medium. The UK gang alone has prolly doubled or tripled since then. You can't say they aren't working.

If no Europeans were showing up for Flatstock then I'd be let down but that's not the case now.
