Accepting Credit Cards?

Hey-

I've been searching the posts from last year and I can't find the one I'm looking for. There was a long discussion about accepting credit cards, and some people had suggestions for alternatives to PayPal - and stuff that could be run on-site like at Flatstock.

Refresh my memory! Who uses what? How is it? Do you need one of those impression-machine things?

ProPay. it's the jam for people like you or me who:

a) don't have a store
b) will not have say, $500 or more in card transactions a month that make having a true merchant account viable, financially.
c) will need to take cards 1-12 times a year, or so on a very random set of occasions and amounts to process.
d) don't have a wireless swiper thingy.

basically, for flatstocks and craft shows. and the occasional person online who wants to use a card but doesn't use PayPal (which lots of people won't for various reasons.)

the manual swipers and slips are super cheap on ebay. you can either use a cell phone to call the charges in on the spot or use a laptop if there is wireless where you are to process them on the web. or, you can do either at a later time, like that night or the next day.

I heard that the api sets up a paypal area to pay at FS, is this true?

yep. Specailly since I can use it everyday as an ipod. I got a great deal on ebay for a 16 gig. Check the bay kids!!
