OK, so my girl Casey & I picked up the Methanes at the airport around 10pm, shortly after I presented Mike Budai with the award for Best Concert Poster at the Austin Music Awards (congrats!)
We're sitting at Shady Grove having Mexican martinis a little while later talking about Flatstock moments from the past...like the crack whore in Seattle that wanted to kick Robert Methane's ass, or a couple of years ago in Austin when I jumped on the hood of some rowdy kids' car. We were joking about how and if some of those moments would ever be topped, especially this weekend which had gotten off to kind of a lazy start.

Well goddamn. We're in the lobby of the Hyatt tonight at 1am, and the Methanes recognize Booker T and the MGs in the bar. We were chatting it up, and everyone in the band was totally cool except Donald "Duck" Dunn, who was just plowed. The Methanes are big fans and just stoked to be meeting these guys, much less having drinks with them. So you can imagine the uncomfortable feeling when out of nowhere, Duck starts asking Robert what his problem is, and calls me a prick and a cocksucker. Mark & I were hoping he would fight Robert, but as it turns out he was more interested in fighting me. He started getting pissed because we weren't hooking him up with some pussy (his words), and asking if my girl could suck a good dick. He was WAY too hammered to be calmed down and just wanted to fight. I kind of remember him asking me who was going to suck his dick. Eventually I had to get in his face & tell him to chill the fuck out. After he called Mark a cocksucker or something & told him to buy him a drink, Mark threatened to throw him in the fountain. He stayed belligerent for about an hour before finally going to his room.

All the while this was going on, we had an audience behind us that was enjoying every second of it...turns out it was Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, the producer of "Waiting" and 4 or 5 others.

Day 1 out.

I hate it when SXSW comes around and I'm not there, the 2004 SXSW was one of the greatest experiences of my life but I just simply have not had the cash to make it back stateside and every March I get pissed off that I didn't save harder during the year.
