Is it time to 'organize'?
You guys are hitting the 12th Flatstock... 6 years or so of having API as an organization to help with promoting your art and the scene in general.
Lots of success...
But no hint of any guidelines, ethics and all that sort of rule-bullshit that can be either good or bad depending how they are implemented
Why not use FS12 to talk about and perhaps even act on setting up some basic 'rules' that people affiliated with API should at least follow
1. No selling of posters before the date of the show
2. Minimum charge of (say) $50 for a poster for venues/bands or barter against the right to sell those posters yourselves through your own sales channels
3. Written agreement requirement from either band or venue or promotor.
The above are just for kicks... at a minimum it could lead to some interesting discussion material during FS12. Some of it might be impossible to get a consensus on but why not give this list if rules a whirl and see where it goes?
The lack of a code of conduct is baffling to me... though I understand that a lot of people are violently alleregic to rules
Every freaking time a discussion will pop on gp about the legalities of selling posters that were made for a venue or the idea of working for free. You guys have a perfect infrastructure to discuss this shit and get some basic consensus, to set up a list, to educate others etcetera.
whatever
