as the austin crew go to meeting this week with SXSW i've been curious about one factor that has come up on some of the 'FS' threads:

what exactly is the animosity about having a corperate sponsor?

this is an honest question. if someone had a specific beef about an individual company ( " smoking is bad " , " they promote child labor in 3rd world nations" , " they hit me with an unlawful 'cease-and-decist' order when i was clearly in my 1st amendment rights " ) i could understand and possibly support their point of view. unfortunetly it just seems right now that if any corperation steps up with any support it is automatically viewed, by some, as 'evil blood-money'.

just curious on the thoughts.

i truly have NO problem with a corporate sponsor. i thought it was great last year, raised visibility, brought lots of musicians into the hall that might not have been there otherwise, etc. plus, those brochures were sweet.

I'm pretty much all for getting some money from somebody like a big shoe company or even a beer company.

If you want it to be, you can make anything bad.

money's also for mortgages! it's neat that way. they let you trade it for a HOUSE!

really, though, unless you're going for "Baby-Stabbers, Inc," i think the sponsorship works out well for everyone. and even baby-stabbers would prob. get some poster business...

I have ZERO problem with a corporate sponsor...why would you? Unless they started telling you what they deemed "acceptable" as far as what you could display or sell since they were sponsoring it.

But aside from that unlikely scenario...let the money start pouring in.
