I am tying up all sorts of loose ends in Chicago today, and then boarding a plane late tonight. After an overnight layover in Istanbul, I am headed straight to Ralf's gallery where I will eat bagels and get smudges all over my own artwork.

Both of these are correct, actually. Turkey hasn't ever really been high on my list of places to visit, but my attitude is that I kind of want to see every country I get the chance to. So I intentionally booked a flight through Istanbul with an overnight layover so I can check a new (but actually incredibly old) land a little bit.
Considering that I will have to get a hotel for a night in Turkey and pay for meals for an extra day and a half of travel, it makes this flight cost about as much as if I just flew direct or with a short layover in Europe. But now I get to buy cheap saffron!
