It has the clear backround on the logo as shown but when I copy and paste it. All I get is the bounding boxes and no logo. I need the same logo on both sides. They just sent me a TIFF and I hope this will work and let me do what I need

Are you copying and pasting the right layer?

That's weird. Maybe it imported with a bounding box and that's what your copying. Though that sounds stupid.

Have you tried just importing it again for the second one instead of copying it.
If that doesn't work it sounds like a memory problem.

They just sent you a TIF, eh? You can use the Path tool in PS or Pen tool in AI and just use that to create a clipping mask/path, depending on which app you fancy.

So will your next task be to keep it from breaking down when enlarged 600%? I will always be amazed by clients who have no idea how to submit appropriate file types. Even when you KNOW they have that crap on a disc somewhere.

I get this kind of stuff so much, that I'm surprized when I get a correct file. I just have to work around it.

If copy/paste isn't working, try importing the file. If the .psd isn't importing, save it as a .tif or transparent .gif and importing that. If it's still only showing up as a bounding box, gather it all into PS and then when done, bring it all back into Illustrator and Live Trace. This seems like a lot of going back/forth, but sometimes that's what you gotta do. I'm still not positive what your problem is though.

The matting is greyed out under my LAYERS button. I work by hand all the time and then scan into PS and drop out the white and add color on underneath layers. I would LOVE to know how to do this defringe thing as sometimes I'm left with a few white or grey pixels along edges of the black line work.

DO I need to select an area? The line work? Add a mask or matt (which I actually don't know how to do either)?

    Thanks!

have you tried dropping the jpeg into illustrator by itself... and then livetracing it with the setting ignore white? This could work for you....and then you would have a vector version of the logo...

I actually just tried doing that. pretty sweet with the 1px and range of 5 someone else suggested. Kept the look of my drawing style and cleaned it right up. I kinda love gigposters. Had I known about this site 10 years ago it woulda saved me a lot of trial and error and extended work time.....
