What kind of scanner should I get?

I've got a hold of a little extra cash and I want to (finally) get myself a scanner so I can start vectoring my sketches. Is there any specific brand/model you guys would recommend? Or does it really matter when it comes to scanning in images? This is the sole reason I want a scanner, so I don't need any crazy extra features. If it doesn't really matter, how's about just your basic printer/scanner combo? Thanks for the help guys! I'm getting premium soon, scouts honor.

I personally like the cheap ones. I've worked with super high end scanners and they pick up more than I'd like sometimes. They're too good.

I've got some 3 year old 8 x 14 Epson, now and it works great for what I need. I think it was around $99.

this is true.
you can get a really convincing scan of a blank white piece of paper, down to every miniscule grain of pulp. but all you really want is what you added to the paper. great for paintings, not necessary for ink drawings.
like richie says, spend $70 to $99 and do everything you need to do, as long as it's not bigger than 8.5 x 11 or so. i've had a little canon lide scanner for many years that still works great.

I got an 11x17 Mustek scanner off of ebay for like $150.00. Totally saves me from having to 'stitch' together larger pieces in photoshop. If you draw larger than 8.5x11, you'll totally want to save yourself the headache and get a larger one. I do a lot of comics so I needed the bigger platter.

Larger format scanners like this are normally crazy expensive, but these Musteks are no longer made anymore so you can pick 'em up cheap. Lots of comic pros use these, so you know they're good.

For now I don't need anything larger than 8.5" x 11" but who knows? Maybe in the near future I'll be doing larger format shit. Thanks for the good info. On another note, your avatar.. fuckin stupendous work. I think you pulled it off better than Sacha.
