now you can delete points and clean it up as you like.
but it really is easier to start with a cleaner piece of art and scan that.
it's auto TRACE, not auto INK.
i played with the threshold in photoshop and converted to grayscale before opening it in illustrator.
yeah, this was CS3, but CS2 wasn't much different if i recall correctly.
it really does come down to having a good drawing to start with.
editing the live trace is a matter of pulling points around, not using brushes.
okay, I'm trying inking it and rescan it.

do a clean inking job, erase the pencils, scan grayscale, threshold, and live trace will give you great results.
