A question for the digital shutterbugs.

G'day.
How many of you use your memory cards for permanent storage? I've extracted all the pics from my trip, and I'm backing them up, but I somehow don't feel compelled to erase/re-format my cards. I figure it'd be a good way to keep the original files around.

The problem is I worry about them becoming obsolete at some point.

I'm redoing some cd packing for a band right now and two of the albums are all back-up on ZIP disks. It's gonna be a pain to get that stuff.

I think I still have a Bernoulli disk around here somewhere.

no, really, once i transfer to my harddrive, i dump the memory card. then i backup my photo library on DVDs. multiple copies.

welcome to the digital age. nothing is permanent.
nothing ever was, but now it's a lot less permanent.
every means of storing and archiving becomes obsolete at ever shorter intervals.

True indeed. I figure I'll get prints made of the dopest shots, too. I'd like to think that some tactile things never go out of style.

If you have ever really been burnt by a computer crash, it teaches you this. I keep everything backed up on an external hard drive and am continually burning everything onto bland CD's or DVD's. Now the pain is shuffling through countless spindles of discs trying to find the one you need. It's like i've come full circle, because now i'm putting all my music back onto disk........

but to answer your question, sounds like a great idea, because nowadays memory sticks are pretty cheap and the usb card readers will be around for a long time still.
