Creative COW: Creative Communities of the World is another good tutorial resource.

Editing in After Effects is a major bitch. I work with it everyday. If you have an questions feel free to ask. I love helping "newbs".

I like this for AE:
VideoCopilot.net Video Tutorials & Post Production

CreativeCow has some stuff, too. I also like maltaannon.com as well!

What they said. Although, I've done super simple animations and mattes in Premiere, too.

I've used Final Cut Pro on an Apple and Premiere is pretty much the same thing.

After Effects is crazy cool if you know what you're doing.

True! There's a massive amount of stuff capable with After Effects, though my experiences are that someone who has no clue can find it quite puzzling.

at my 9-5, we use final cut for heavy editing, aftereffects for light editing and motion graphics/special effects.

I did all the character animation here with after effects and motion (which is a special effects add on for final cut). Simple stuff but it was a fun project.

Magic Experience : Magic: The Gathering

And then my first forray into editing and voicover and real motion design are for these sonic videos. Blame the crappy design choices on the client, but you can get an idea of what is possible only using aftereffects.
