Default modding a cd player external control buttons

Maybe some of you GP'rs have done this so I'll put it out there.

I need to mod a personal cd player for a client. They're making some
sound-related installation/artwork and need me to build an external set of buttons for a player. The player would be hidden and out of view, hence the buttons. Its a pretty basic mod, but it's not one I've done before. Basically, I'm hoping to extend wiring off the circuit board, bypass the button on the player, and run about a meter of wiring to a new tactile switch. People mod their car stereos like this to put control buttons on a steering wheel for instance, but I need to build something using a cd player. Any suggestions, perhaps links to other modding sites if you've seen anything like this would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

ha ha. I need to extend the button about three feet. I'll post a pic here in a moment to explain what I'm playing at.

Maybe this helps. Here's the player and the button that needs modding. Its pretty straightforward on models this cheap. The small pad connects with the circuit board and completes the command when its pushed. So whats on the board can be soldered to an extension.

I need to extend a wire off the board to a new button.
That way the player can be set up to repeat, hidden away behind the piece and the button is extended away from the player. Press the button and it goes back to the beginning of whatever is on the cd.

I'm checking out head-fi.org and diyaudio.com but if anyone here knows of any other sites where this info might be found, a link would be awesome. It's off topic, but I figured I'd try here. Printer's predicament: make something right for someone and they think you can make'em anything....

Problem over. This little mod will get repeated on a few units.
    Onto the fabrication.
