Default Consistent line from scanning

When I look at posters by Kozik. The charactors usually have a nice consistent line for the whole drawing.

How can I scan line art images and get the same results?

I currently only have Photoshop.

I heard some people say they use Streamline? Or this there another program that can do this?

I'll help you but on one condition. Stop looking at Kozik posters. He is the OLD.

Scan your lineart at like 600 dpi in the bitmap mode. If you want to be like Kozik, scan it at 800dpi.

Scan the art in at 600 dpi, Unsharp Mask with these numbers:

400
1
7

Apply threshold at 50% mode, adjust slider until you have no/little black dots, and solid-as-possible black areas. Clean up with brush and eraser if necessary. Change mode to Bitmap. Boom, you have a crisp piece of line art with a small file size.

*ahem*

this is what i do:

1. the older work pre 1996 was shot directly from the original on a stat camera.

2. post 96:

draw image as large as possible and still fit in scanner.

scan it as a greyscale at 800 dpi.

open in photoshop. cleanup by adjust brightnes and contrats first, then clean up with pen tool, THEN threshold it.

save as ps file.

open streamline.

streamiline it. save as eps file.

then either put it in illustrator and add text

OR

open in photoshop with 'anti-alias' turned OFF.

color etc.

for offsett printing make all blacks

51 C 53 M 65 Y 100 B

always make reds with a lot of yellow.

Here's an earlier thread with a LOT of info concerning some of your questions. Read the thread and then ask again if anything is still not clear. Eventually this kind of info will be collected on the API site.
