Default Mac & Windows versions of QuarkXpress + InDesign

I'm signing up for night classes to relearn QuarkXpress and Indesign (I haven't touched those programs in 5 years). Is there a big difference between the Mac and Windows versions?

I'm completely comfortable working with Macs and PCs. But I'm thinking about signing up for the Windows courses because I use a PC at home.

More places are waking up and moving to InDesign, but it's good to know both still.

i've got quark 7 on a mac, but i end up using 6.5 more, due to most printers dropping quark like a bad, evil thread. not sure about the diff between mac/pc, (besides that pc's sucketh verily).

i've used indesign too, in fact am hoping to make switch soon, i'm just SO used to quark after these many moons. i'd lean towards learning indesign if i was you.

Who uses quark anymore? I haven't even heard that name for like 3 years.

i think many national newspapers still cling to quark actually... like every single software pack, it has its pro's and cons. they are at version 8, so somebody's usin it.

No difference. They both suck equally.

I would familiarize yourself with mac versions as for the most part if you get a job somewhere using them it would most likely be on a mac.

    Hi Alice!

I've had to relearn Quark to redesign a catalog for an old client. It had this weird 'quark' where it would not print or preview images in hi res on my comps. It also took forever to print! My frustrations here... Quark nerds?

InDesign was cake considering most of the tools and palettes are laid out the same as Illustrator and Photoshop. Once I succeeded in getting my client to switch, we breezed through projects! I think the different key commands between the PC/Mac versions are going to drive you nuts.

    Good luck!
