Default advice on hi-res screen caps

if you got it, bring it.

i run into this problem a bit when i have constructed stuff in Illustrator with the overprint feature and then need to export or otherwise make a good, hi-res jpg or tiff. the problem being that when exported to Photoshop, the overprint colors in the image are changed essentially to spot colors and it's all wrong.

crappy screen caps for small mocks are fine usually. just every now and then i need to get a better, higher res, larger file.

i've googled a little bit and most of the tips are from 2002 or not helpful really. there are a few programs out there that seem to useful, and cheap-ish at about $25-$30.

just wondering if there is something that i am completely overlooking as far as settings and such.

what about if you export a hi-res directly from Illustrator and bring it in to Photoshop? I have no idea... but just a thought... ***DUH..just reread your post**

This is happening when you do a tiff export from Illustrator?

Or is the problem that you need it to export in layers?

I use an old version of Paint Shop Pro (5 or 6?) to do screencaps. They come out great. I bet you could probably pick that up for next to nothing.

what about opening the illustrator file itself in Photoshop with "keep layers" selected?

Can't you just put each Ill layer as a photoshop layer then use darken and adjust your transparecy?

as you can see, i am living example of the perils of being self-taught. so, bear with me. here's a poor but poopy example of what happens when i do what i do. which i'm open to change to make work better.

i'm not sure how to export from Illustrator to Phootshop in layers, for one thing. Would that work in a case like this?

this is an example of how a this poster should look, after being exported from AI to PS. (this is a screencap btw):

this is how it looks when i do export it and open it up in PS:

if there are no overprints involved, i know how to make a sweet, stupid hi-res jpg/tiff, it's just when over prints come into play i'm at loss.
