just make sure all your hardware has XP drivers. the only problem i had was a weird hard drive problem where my 500 gig drive only showed like 200. i just used partition magic to reallocate the drive space and every thing was fine.
and i wouldn't consider it a downgrade.
we're upgrading to office 2007 at work, and it totally sucks. everything in word, excel and access are completely different. to do the upgrade, you have to have XP or vista, so i wouldn't be surprised if XP isn't servicable anymore in the near future.

I run Vista at home but dont really ask a whole lot from that computer. It mostly runs a bitorrent client 24/7 and then I do email and surfing on it. I dont run apps like photoshop or anything else on it. I watch movies and burn cds/dvds with it. It runs for a week or so at a time without a reboot. It was a bit of a hassle at first with all the DRM stuff. I had to tell the PC I was the owner of all the files I imported from my old computer. Since then, it's been just fine....and zippy fast....and no real crashes to speak of

I dont understand the people constantly hating on vista (not anyone here specifically, people all over the internets in general) saying it sucks, it crashes constantly etc. I have had vista for the better part of a year now and i loves it. I work on it all day on my laptop, i have it running on a home theater PC, feeding windows media center to my Xbox360.
I think a lot of the time its just configuration error, people not managing there system correctly, and then its easy to blame the new OS. </rant>
