Illustrator CS3 overprinting black

I'm at working designing a logo, 100% black and PMS 306. For the last 2 days I've been trying to print a couple of different logos out to our color printer for a mockup to show the client and NO MATTER what the setting I choose for turning off black overprinting it still show it as overprinted. Even in the printer dialog box for this specific printer it is turned OFF and still does it.

This is driving me insane, so my question is has anyone ever had this problem before? Is it possible to have it print out and look correct? It looks fine on screen and if I rip the file and then print it.

Printing from Illus is wacky. In your print dialog box you have to choose the printer first, set that up then do page setup or whatever. Do it out of sequency and it resets everything.

I've had this happen in CS2. I had to copy the black outline for every other part of the design and "Minus Back" each piece. It worked but was a bitch. The customer sent the art, and I could not figure out why it was printing that way, so I had no choice.

I usually do do that, plus it set up to default to this printer anyway.

So there's no way around this except to pathfind it and minus black?!

export to psd and print from there?

where is it "showing it" as overprinted? you mean you're seeing it on the canvas itself, or the checkbox on the attributes panel is checked? is the checkbox grayed out?

It showing as overprinted on the piece of paper that prints out. It looks fine on screen, even with the "overprint preview" on. Box on attributes palette is UNchecked.
