Default Large size scanner for Mac????

Does anyone have a recommendation for a large size flatbed scanner ( 11"x14" or over) that will work with Mac? I've researched and it seems that anything larger than 8x11 is thousands of dollars. Ffor some inexplicable reason it costs t over 10 times as much for over 8x11???? I have no idea why the price jumps that much.
I tried the Mustek Scanexpress, which was 11x17, for $175. It was a piece of crap and didn't even work, after I scoured the web to find drivers for a Mac, which I did.
If anyone has any good suggestions even in the $1000 range please let me know. thanks.

I got a great deal on an amazing Creo Eversmart scanner because it has no OSX drivers and has to run in OS 9 native. Luckily I have a native G4. Try fishing out some obsoleted scanners this way. The files are the same either way.

you should check out the silver fast drivers and see if they have something for your scanner

i'm rocking an old SCSI microtek 6400XL and it's solid as a rock. the scsi is a pain to workaround but it's worth it for the hardware.

    dspring,
Yeah that Mustek is the one I had.

The Microtek is probably fine, I was just hoping there was something for a little less money.

What kind of filthy lowlifes make scanners that don't work for Mac, or only on Mac OS 9?
    Thanks for the info.

They don't make them just for OS 9 but they didn't bother updating the drivers so as to sell you a new scanner. Kind low life yes, but you can get a $15,000 scanner for very little as a result.
