Clipping Masking in Illustrator CS

I have photo that I did a clipping mask with.

Object>Clipping Mask>Make

My question is how do I mask it so I knock some out of the center, Like a small circle in the middle of photo?

I think you can do it by making a compound path and using that to mask....
