    Default File Problem

I have a file that was sent to me (AI file - 739 kb)

Everytime I try and open it this pops up "Can't finish preveiwing. Not enough memory was available or an object was to complex. Reducing the size of document may help"

Any of you get this or know away around it. The guy had some company
do the artwork for him and he is having the same problem trying to open it
and the company that did it can't figure it out on there end either.

can you open it in photoshop or place it in indesign? it wont fix anything but it will tell you if the file itself is corrupt.

I get that message when an image is insanely complicated or large (with lots of embedded images). I've never found a work around other than viewing the image in wireframe mode (command Y) and stripping away some of the heavy/complicated stuff.

That must be what it happening. I opened a new file and copy and pasted it into it and at times it was showing some of the color image. Like you said all I see is wireframe. I'll try deleting some of the stuff and see what happens

    thanks

More than likely there are a lot of compound/complex paths which are too much to choke down for your available memory. RAM or Disk.

    1) AI> Edit> Preferences> Plug-ins & Scratch Disks
If you have more than one drive, select the one with more free space.
You will have to restart AI for the changes to take effect

    -or-

    2) Free up some space on your drive.

    -or-

    3) Buy more RAM

I think this company that did the artwork just went crazy. The thing that has me thinking is either the way the built it just made the file to complex.
Is there a chance that they used plug-in that my computer does not support?

If it were just a Plug-In it would tell you it was plug-in related.

It's either a memory issue or they forced a quit before it was done saving and the file is truncated so it doesn't know how big it really is; i.e. corruptified.

    Their fault.

If you're running multiple programs (web browser, itunes, etc) quit them. should free up some ram.

2 other possible fixes. After these... I have no idea:

    1) Open a New Illustrator file and see if your can use PLACE for the fuxxored one into the new one. Do a save as and cross your fingers.

    2) If the file is in EPS format, convert the file to PDF in Adobe Acrobat Distiller, and then open the PDF file in Illustrator.
