Default InDesign to Quark export filter?

    .

I have a print ad in InDesign, and one magazine publisher is Quark only. They are asking for the files as Quark. Besides rebuilding, is there an easier way, preferably an export filter I could install, that will convert this to a Quark document? Even if I assume it will then need a little tweaking in Quark, but save me a lot of work?

Thank you in advance for any helpful advice.

PS. I don't have Quark, and neither does the client who's office I'm working at. We're both on InDesign. My client has aknowledged they may have to bite the bullet and buy Quark to get this ad out the door. Does Quark perhaps have an InDesign import function?

    Thanks again.

Export a PDF. Send that to the magazine.

Or an EPS...or whatever. Quark doesn't care what program the file comes out of. All they gotta do is place it in the layout.

yeah, a pdf, we send out pdf's only, we never send the source files.

as an indusrty, i have been here 2 years, and have not had one magazine ask for a quark file. i didnt know people still used it.

so i think it is on them, they are behind, quark is not the industry standard anymore.

I've had problems in the past getting InDesign PDFs to work in a quark file, but that was probably because we were on an old ass version of quark (3.1 I think...and this was in 2004). Everything would look fine on screen but once it went to plate, it went crazy. This was several years ago so it may not be a problem now, but it might not hurt to check how up to date their software is.

i would love to know if there is a filter that i can open up quark documents in Indesign CS3. i have all my sticker templates in Quark and don't want to have to rebuild them in indesign.

saving as a pdf or eps doesn;t work for some reason. it screws up the file.

Not really, Andy. There's some $200 program out there that does it but it's not compatible with CS3...and do you really want to spend 200 bucks to use it only a couple times?

Oh wait...I found it. It is compatible to CS3 now...but it's still $200.

Their spec sheet says to submit one of two files:
A.) The preferred file is the original QuarkXpress file.
B.) The magazine will also accept a PDF file ONLY if it is a PDF created with QuarkXpress. If the PDF file was created with any other application besides QuarkXpress, the magazine will not guarantee that it will print properly, and is not responsible for any file problems, or inaccurate color.

    That's what I've always heard.

Export it as an EPS. Open it in AI. Check that it's intact. Save the AI file as an EPS and send them that.

    Fuck Quark.
