Default apple airport

does anyone use one of these things? can you transfer files from computer to computer, or just share an internet connection. and if you are sharing an internet connection, do you have to have IPs for each computer?

I don't have one but it's just an 802.11 wireless base station. Think Ethernet sans Ethernet.

btw, I think they have a version that has routing functions too, so you can share internet connections.

Oh also, if Apple's prices are steep, you can probably pick up any base stattion that supports the same 802.x protocol as your wireless cards. Netgear makes an inexpensive base/router for around $89.

Just make sure folks don't hang around outside your crib and leech off your hotspot.

my main wireless router is the base station, and I use an express to send music from any of my computers to the main stereo downstairs.

wireless file / music sharing throughout the house and workspaces is pretty darn handy.
