Need more info here...

So you're picking PMS colors and printing them to say an inkjet? Same printer you used to use for an older version I assume?

Are you working RGB or CMYK?

Under Edit: Color Settings what is your profile?

I keep having problems changing colors too. Like I'll change the color of an object from red to blue and it will show in the color palette that it's changed to blue but will remain red on screen. Until I figure it out I just keep redrawing stuff in the new color.

yeah, im working in cmyk. just installed the program, so the profile is set to its defaults. i opened an old file, and noticed that, for instance, PMS Red 032 looks beige onscreen.

Hmmm...eay fix...kinda...

Here's the quick and dirty way to change your screen colors.

Double click on the PMS 032 swatch in the swatch pallette. Adjust the cmyk sliders till you get the red it should look like on screen. Make sure nothing is selected when you do that. Everything that is PMS 032 will change in hue and value.

When this thing is printed is it gonna be REALLY printed with spots or is it just going to an inkjet or laser?

If it's going to be printed as spots then PMS 032 could be green on screen and it still doesn't matter cause the only thing that matter is if PMS 032 goes on the plate. If it's labeled PMS 032 that's what the printer will use.

Are you just concerned with how it looks on screen?

If it's not being printed as spot colors then you really shouldn't even be messing with spot colors. Not that their complicated or anything, but spot colors never print right or look right as anything but spot colors.

I can't give you a real good answer. Depends on your printer.

Upon further review. For a laser printer without a RIP (Fiery), I would recommend US Prepress Defaults (SWOP Coated 20). For an Inkjet or a laser printer with a RIP I would recommend RGB.

From an RGB file a RIP will extract the CMYK data it needs more correctly that the software will.
