Default Protecting Images on the Internet

OK .. since this was brought up in the comments due to a discussion about image theivery.. I wanted to start a thread.

Just so you know... there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to protect an image on the internet. If you think you have an image protected somehow, just let me know, and I'll go steal it.

Seriously.. you can disable right-click (for PC users) .. embed a watermark or some kind of copyright ... embed it in flash ... a java applet... whatever.

YOU CAN'T. So .. beware.

I'm not saying AT ALL that it is 'right' .. or 'ok' to do this. It is just that I have extensively looked into ways to protect the images here on gigposters.com.. BUT.. there is no possible way. End of story.

Have a nice day!

To really protect yourself, just do what I do. Do really crappy work that no one would ever want to steal.

I take ur word for it clay but i'm currently having a new site put together by a friend of mine and i asked her about protecting images and she gave me a couple of examples of watermark protection, one of them is basically a large see thru rectangle which covers about a quarter of the poster (lightening the area behind it) and the other alternative was the rectangle but with the artists name and copyright written on it in big horrible letters. i thought both options would ruin the look of the site and didn't bother with them cause after all, if someone takes a print of it and blows it up,its gonna look pretty blurry and crappy anyway, i guess the file size of the illo used on that other poster was big enough to give a sharpish reproduction. i think basically we can't stop anyone doing it, the laws are there but people don't really see it as a big deal and do it anyway, its just up to peoples conscience when its all done and dusted.

Ummmm... forgot one Clay: Screen Capture.

Always works (unless the image is mangled like on Corbis & Eyewire). Too bad that we can't protect against bad artists using images...
