funny this old thread got bumped. I've been pondering a tablet upgrade. My Intuos 2 is showing wear and tear. Not sure whether I should upgrade to the 12WX or go mega-upgrade to the 22hd. It's not a money issue as much as it's a rearrange-my-office-and-completely-change-my-workflow sort of issue. PONDERING

I find my current 12" screen large enough to do work on. Maybe you can find a dealer who will lend you a demo-model for a couple of days to find out what works for you.

I've never used one, but Ray Frenden has been singing the praises of this thing called a monoprice tablet.

They are like a quarter of the price of an Intuos, I'm considering one for my next tablet.

I (drunkenly) bought this for myself and just plugged it in today. It's been about 8 years since I last tried to use a tablet and I'm still pretty clumsy but it's pretty much what I expected -- I draw even worse with a tablet than I do on paper and my short-comings are magnified on screen. But... I will keep practicing and try to learn how to use this thing.

I got a $79 Wacom Bamboo earlier this year and it kicks the ass of the $500 6 year old Wacom something or other I had been using.

I saw this in my referral links. I've been meaning to register here for about five years, so I figured now was as good a time as any.

If you haven't caught it, I just reviewed a Cintiq alternative that uses the same underlying tech as the Monoprice tablets (namely UC Logic digitizers).

Between the Monoprice and Yiynova, I'm now a Wacom free studio. I used to have multiple Intuoses and Cintiqs. I like the lower latency feeling and more natural pressure curve of the UC Logic digitizers.

Your review was what convinced to me go with the monoprice over an entry level wacom tablet. So thanks!

Been using a cintiq for about 5 years, 0 complaints, tons of shit to do. Never used anything else. Sorta like when I was a teenager I went straight to Napoleon Cognac instead of bud light. Doesn't mean anything, just did it that way.

Just bought a barely used Wacom Intuos 3 6x8 on Ebay for $112. I do a lot of drawing with my mouse in illustrator so I'm really excited to see if a tablet will increase my efficiency.

I've been debating the implentation of a tablet for years. I am worried that I might not get the mileage out of it. Obviously this is a personal preference, but given my "technique/lack thereof" for line work (which is pretty much sculpting lines with the pen tool in AI) it might be worth it, to pony up, and see if a tablet could save some production time (especially with those curvy contour things.) sometimes I find myself mindlessly OCD'ing out on the tugging and pulling of handles. I might be more afraid to learn how to use it than I am to buy it, and not end up using it. Shit.
