File Size for 40" 1080p LCD

I can't wrap my brain around this this morning. Trying to figure out what the best size image I should be making for a digital menu board that will be displayed on a 40" 1080p LCDTV. Should it be somewhere close to 2800px wide? File type has to be JPEG due to limitations of the TV. Any help would be great.

find out the resolution of the TV, make it that size.

Next question. JPEG is still coming out blurry as shit. I'm using Illustrator's Save For Web option - exporting a JPEG at 100% quality and 1920x1080px. This is obviously not working... is there a better method?

Blurry on the computer's end or the TV's end?

If it's the computer, it might be that your resolutions are not the same as the TV, or the TV is trying to stretch it or something.

Use the export option instead of save for web.

I'm thinking that the TV won't display JPEGs in HD over USB. Might have to get an external device that we can connect by HDMI.

if it's blurriness in the file itself (confirm on computer screen at 100% size), export from AI as a psd, flatten in Photoshop, and apply a 50%-60% unsharp mask, then save as jpg.

if it's bluriness on the TV end, A. make sure your device is sending an HD signal (ie not sending a stretched/zoomed size)and B. make sure the TV is displaying an HD signal (usually an info button on remote will tell)
