Does anyone here know if it is possible to print with an Epson 3800 using only the black ink cartridges?
I'd love to know the trick, if there is one.

try using guten-print drivers (formerly gimp-print), many options. I force it to use the matte black cart only on an 1800.
...
Thanks. I've installed them, but it looks like I won't be able to take advantage of the tweaks they offer until I replace the empty yellow cartridge. Unless there's a way to force it to print even with the "out of toner" warning.
Anyone know if that can be done?
so basically its quit because you have an empty cartridge and you just want to get it up and running in greyscale ?
I think they refuse to run with a kicked cartridge.
AccuRip works on the 3800 and lets you replace all the cartridges with black . . . never used it though
Get cleaning cartridges to leave in for the other colors that won't actually print, and flush out the old ink. That will keep the lines and head from clogging up when not in use.
