Illustrator eyedropper tool

Hey... I think maybe I toggled a setting accidentally?

My eyedropper tool has stopped working the way it used to work (like, past 2-3 days). I can still select an object and then use the eyedropper tool to change it to whatever I click on. What's different is:

* If I select a text object, switch to eyedropper, and click on, say, a colored square, the text does not change color. The fill box on the toolbar shows the color has changed, but it has not. I *can* change the color of the text by double clicking on it and manually selecting all of the text in the text box, and THEN using the eyedropper.

* I can select multiple objects and change their color via eyedropper, but I cannot select a bunch of objects that have been Grouped together & have the eyedropper work. (same deal as text example... toolbar says the fill color has changed when it has not). It doesn't work if I double click on the group and selecting all objects in isolation mode, either.

someone please tell me what mysterious shortcut key combo i must have pressed. This is SUPER annoying.

The Eyedropper works differently with text I think. Like if you had one paragraph in helvetica and one in Times you could select one and eyedropper the other im not sure if its set up the same for selecting objects.

The eyedropper tool has options, double click the icon in your tool bar.

Trashed preferences. Fixed it. To my eyes all eyedropper settings look the same. guh.
