Hi - I am doing illustration for a client. They will be posters, but not screen printed - they said they are using a 4C litho print. They have asked that elements be on separate layers (girl layer, banner layer) so that they can move the banners up if they need a different size
My question is this...
I am now so use to blasting out my drawings to be blackline and dirt layer - basically, altering the dots to be put on screen. I am use to loosing the soft quality of my illustration in order to print.
BUT - do I have to for 4C litho? I don't know anything about this process. Basically, could they reproduce a watercolor or prismacolor drawing with this process?
They found me due to my poster work, but I would love the opportunity to see one of my drawings reproduced in it's original form.

They should be able to print as detail as you want for 4c litho. I'm assuming it's CMYK on an offset? Or inkjet? Or laser? Some people consider litho to mean mechanically printed on paper. So it may be a question for the printer. But they should be printing extremely small dots if that's the way you send it.
But I'm old, we used bat urine to etch stones to print with and used gooseberries for ink.

The only thing you should really worry about is the printer re-halftoning any halftones you've built into the image.

I'd avoid halftoning anything if you can. Leave it to their prepress operators, they should know their equipment best.

screen print your different layers and scan them in

Yes I would make your drawing your way. Without worrying about silkscreen techniques at all.

Also I would lock that shit down. Giving them layers just means that they will mess your composition up.

Also. They should provide you with finished size. So you can make it fit. Dont' trust designers with your illo.
