To get a non-uniform look, I've taken something that was printed in solid black - like an LP cover, magazine page, even a Xerox - then rubbed it with a napkin or lightly with fine sandpaper til the ink starts to rub off. Scan that, then do some of the tricks above with it.

Methane & Erick Montes get some great textures. I wanna know how they do it.
