screening transparent effect

I'm sure this is super easy, but I have been fooling around trying to recreate this effect for hours with no luck. Anybody have any tips on creating this transparent screening effect in PS?

All heads on their own layer, then fuck around with the transparency setting and blending mode of each layer.
