Question Anyone printing seps with an EPSON 4880?

We recently purchased an EPSON 4880 and I'm not use to using an inkjet printer as opposed to a thermal image setter.

My question is this, I know the ink cartridges are chipped with coding for colors/EPSON ink etc. but will it recognize if I run out of Light Magenta if I replace that with Light Black cartridge since I'm basically only using the special black cartridge to print seps?

Just trying to not have to buy 7 replacement cartridges that are basically clear ink (non colored ink cartridges) if I can have just a couple spares.

Wish we could turn off all print heads and just use the black.

Also, what are you guys paying for a 220ml of sep Black? Anyone have any issues with the 4880? They seem to be a huge seller.

    Thanks for the help.

I use a 4880 that has matte black ink - i print my seps with the normal inks and have it set to Photo Quality Inkjet paper, Black, Highest Quality, and use the working rgb profile - my stuff comes out perfect.

I buy inks either from atlex.com or bhphoto.com - they usually are the same price at both places - 220ml are $79.95 - i've never tried putting an ink in that is the wrong color for the slot so I can't help you there. I have a 4880 and a 4800 and both are perfect for printing

So is your primary use for the printer for seps?

Do you use Non colored inks at all?

    Thanks for the help!
