Photoshop question

I'm trying to figure out how to take a photo and convert it into only two colors...sort of like a 2-color screenprint would look. Anybody have any ideas? I tried "Duotone" and that doesn't work for me. I also tried "replace color" and that didn't work either.

You could use threshold.
Or just convert to bitmap mode.

The best way I can think of is to take the photo, then image>adjustments>black&white. Then create a new layer on top of the photo and use the paint bucket to fill the color you want to use. After that, change the layer mode of the color to lighten, multiply, or overlay, depending on how you want it to look. Hope this helps... post the photo in here with a bit more description of what you're trying to do if this isn't what you're looking for.

No replace color or duotone settings won't give you what it sounds like you're going for. Posterize the image or use the Cutout filter.

Or any other of the 15 ways there are to do it.

Just saw that you added a photo. If you're trying to get that image go to filters>Gardner.

After seeing the picture... Yep. Do this. Go crazy.

The trick to making a screen printed looking image is to do exactly what you'd have to do to seperate it for screenprinting...just without physically screen printing it. Think about it

It's all gonna be bitmapping each element and then recombining everything.

I converted the image to grayscale and then bitmapped it. Now I am unable to add colors because the layer is permanently locked. I tried making a new layer but am not given that option...any ideas on how to add the coloring?

Change it back to grayscale, 1:1 size ratio, then go to image, select color range, and click on the black. cut or copy that and paste it in to a new document thats setup as RGB, or after you paste it you could just convert the current document to RGB.
