    Default Chicago Area Bands

moving from chicago to denver and wanted to handout some kick-ass parting gifts to cowankers that are still listening to Q101. what top CD's would you recommend from chicago/illinois based bands.

exclude andrew bird since he's in a league of his own.

looking for "obscure" among the masses. tortoise, sea&cake, whatever, etc.

public question, but others may benefit. any helpz appreciated. thanks. - slater

You're moving from Chicago and you don't know what kick-ass Chicago band CDs you should buy?

You're screwed. Just get them a damn gift card.

I am way behind when it comes to great chicago bands. until recently all I listened to was death metal. the accused, kreator, obituary, etc.

now with 3 kids I've slowed down a bit. figured that I would go straight to the source and ask the dudes that were hanging out at lounge ax.

the handsome family (used to be from here)
    centaur (for hum fans)
grzeca should suggest a vandermark project which is less difficult for untrained ears.
