I've been trying to get into Crack the Skye, but it's just not happening. I do like it more each listen, and and the texture is cool, but seems like they kinda took the balls out of it. "The Czar" is pretty sweet though. All that being said, I'll still buy it when it comes out to hear a better version of it and the 7th song that hasn't leaked. I also think it's cool that they're gonna do the whole thing live. I'm pretty sure when it's all said and done and in the future when I wanna listen to some Mastodon, I'll still be pulling out any of their other records before this one.

i always end up liking everythign they do. the last couple albums took a few listens, but i really like em. this one will probably be similar. i can't wait until they get back to the lifesblood/remission sound. remission will be hard for them to ever top.

I was going to make a post and then I read Marks' post and it says exactly what I was going to say. Like, exactly.

yeah Remission is pretty hard to top, though Leviathan and Blood Mountain are equally awesome in their own ways. the new one is like a big long version of Hearts Alive. it's cool they switch it up every album, but this one just doesn't get me amped up like all their other shit

at the time remission was the heaviest music to hit my ears ever! still one of the heaviest albums of all time. ... and the cover was INTENSE! sooo good!!!! ... yet it still doesn't quite capture the intensity of the music. i questions whether anything could ever visually represent that music.
