Dead Kennedys: Frankenchrist...spooky, echoey surf punk

Def Leppard: High 'n' Dry...killer party metal which makes their later candy-ass records all the more pathetic

Dinosaur Jr.: Bug...everyone likes their other records, but this one's my favorite, it's so burned-out

Head of David: Dustbowl...droning UK noise-rock, can trance you out

Meat Puppets: Up on the Sun...most people seem to prefer II, but this one's caked in sunny desert psychedelic delights

Nisi Period: Soon the Love Balloon Will Pop...one of those forgotten post-punk tribal LPs that took the best elements from PiL and others

Samhain: November-Coming-Fire...so many ignore or hate this band, but this is a murky near-masterpiece of aggression and doom

Sheer Terror: Just Can't Hate Enough...one of the few OG NYHC records worth revisiting, it's exactly like early Celtic Frost as played by municipal janitors

Tad: Salt Lick...outrageous, sick blast of feedback, recorded by Albini

Dan McCafferty: s/t...singer from Nazareth goes solo, produced by Roger Glover, good mix of songs and styles

Acid King: Busse Woods...I don't see this mentioned a lot, but it's as good a stoner rock as I've ever heard

Witch Cross: Fit for Fight...killer 80s metal from Denmark

No AC/DC, Aerosmith, Neil Young, or Stones albums qualify; even the most obscure ones have for years had defenders arguing their ignored merits.

If You Want Blood, You Got It is very underrated.
