I've never understood why people get so excited about this guy.
Skilled technical player, destined to be on the cover of the various 'bass player' magazines at least once a year, revered by the bass players who buy those magazines, i.e., the ones whose entire musical life involves playing by themselves in their basements, and buying gear they don't need. Cheeseball tone, too many effects, lots of noodle-dicking around, and an untimely death.

Bass is not a lead instrument. It just isn't. The best bass players know this, and don't have an inferiority complex about playing their true, vital role. The rest, buy lots of effects, practice finger tapping, and 'express themselves.'

it's pretty hard to rock the fuck out playing crazy conplicated stuff that your guitar player should be doing anyway, or at least that's what I think.

Is Jaco good? I dunno, that dude plays some down right cheesy shit. Technically proficient maybe but hella boring, definitely.

I would much rather sit through an extended Entwistle or Gezzer solo than than catch 15 seconds of Jaco.

and then there's this guy, I can watch this clip 25 times in a row and still have a still eatin grin every time he whips into that fury at the end of the Bells intro
