    Default Dan Deacon

I have decided that Dan Deacon is possible the greatest artist of our generation. For no other reason than he clearly does not give two shits what anybody thinks. He does whatever he wants. Wether you like it or not... it is interesting at least. Not many artists/ musicians can claim that.

I want to do a poster for Dan Deacon more than an anybody else on the planet.

    Youtube that shix.

I can barely stand his "music" I just like his freedom to create whatever random shit he wants. I wish I had that.

But his music is interesting for it's strangeness. To me anyway.

Well D. Johnston has a disability. He creates freely from that. Dan Deacon appears to create from a fairly sound mind. Sound yet, free. I want to be able to loosen up and make stuff without regard to any kind of idea of what is "cool" I just can't seem to find that place inside of me.

Maybe it is so many years of creating commercial art. Everything I do seems like it needs to be "for something" . I want to make some stuff that has no band name or no real potential for sale. Just random shit.

I finally got to see Dan perform live last night in one of the round-robin shows with Deerhunter and No Age, and I'm still buzzing from it. I can't imagine what an all-Dan show would be like. The chasm between the experience of seeing him live versus listening to his recordings could not be more vast. It's like his music isn't intended to be listened to so much as experienced. A reviewer from NPR wrote of him: "If Dan Deacon comes your way, go. If you're the type of person afraid of being called on or afraid of being a participant, go anyway! It will change your life forever. Oh, and the music is insanely good. It was the best party I've ever witnessed, with the best the music ever." If that's hyperbole, it's only just barely.

He is incredible. I felt like I was seven years old again, playing games at recess, not a care in the world.

i know what you mean, almost everything i do that's "creative" is commercially instigated, i wish i could break off and do more personal stuff with out getting stuck everytime.

i was watching a doc about david lynch and he attributes alot of his creativity to meditation. Its something ive been wanting to try but working up the nerve to put everything on hold like that and just sit there has been nearly impossible. I dont know, maybe he's just naturally a nut bar.
