Ok, what was in your opinion the best band logo... and why? What generally happens is you like the logo cause you like the band. Van halens Logo rocked, as does Aerosmiths... The Doors always was and is SHITHOUSE!!! haahahahaha, but then if you tried to design something for the doors, it look stupid. Best thing could be that cliche surf/psychadelic type that is on anything tye dyed.

What were band ogos youliked?

"An artwork is normally assessed in quality by the amount of stimulation it brings about. The impact it has on people, the number of people that can relate to it, the degree of their appreciation, and the effect or influence it has or has had in the past, all accumulate to the 'degree of art.' Most artworks that are widely considered to be "masterpieces" possess these attributes." - Frank Kozik

i would have to say the best in my opinion would be the misfits' and their crimson ghost skull.........i can't count how many people i've seen wearing those shirts and when i say....."oh you like the Misfits, huh?" they say...."who???"
now that's a logo.........also black flag although i never quite understood the meaning behind those bars.........

yeah the misfits? crimson ghost thing was huge.
the black flag bars are a simplified graphic picture of a waving black flag.
pretty much pick a heavy metal band (I stopped listening to metallica when they abandoned their logo) and you have an important logo.
other favs:
Slayer pentagram(missing sword)
Iron Maiden's font is pretty universal.
Venom's logo (another band that doesn't use it anymore)

I'm also a fan of all those unreadable death metal logos. they're so scary.

The Black Flag of anarchy no less!

Death Metal and Black Metal logos are the best. It's like trying to figure out a puzzle. Believe me they are waaaaay harder to create than you might think.

The Misfits logos (although stolen) are pretty great.

Sex Pistols ransom note style logo is cool.

Danzig

That Rick Griffin style Hendrix logo has always been a favorite.

I have always been a fan of the DRI logo. I was lucky enough to have a chance to update it for them. One of the coolest projects I have ever done.

Probably the best(worst)example of the logo becoming the band is the band Chicago's logo. Over 20-some albums, their cover art had always been some cute rendering of their swashy logo (as chocolate bar, as brushed steel, etc). Too bad the music inside never changed much from the usual mawkish pap.

Let's not forget the band YES. Even if the music aint your cup of tea, that artwork was out of this world. In a weird way.

The Residents image of the eyeball in the top hat has really become their logo over the years. I've also noticed it used on so many things that have nothing to do with the group.

I agree that the Misfits have the best logo. I was freaked out in high school when a really old guy pointed at my misfits skull shirt and yelled, "Hey, the Crimson Ghost!" At the time I had no clue about where they got the image from. But I thought it was cool that he was oblivious to the band yet knew all about the old serial wheras my knowledge was completely inverted.

The Grateful Dead are basically known by their Steal Your Face logo by Griffin, and the Skeleton and Roses by Mouse. Talk about a band with an "icon-ic" following... They have more designs for them than anyone.

I also like Blues Traveler's smoking cat, and the Black Crowes' um...crowes. Jagger's lips/tongue for the Stones is another that I like.
