I think jack black said in an interview that he wanted the D to be considered a real band, and not just a comedy act, he sited ween as an example.

Yeah they have a movie coming out, but I don't know the tittle. And yes, the D fucking rule. KG can play the shit out of that guitar just as well (if not better) as Dean Ween. He is classicly trained to knock your fucking socks off.

I always felt that if you actually like the music the D makes then you are probably being mocked. I personally think they are hilarious though.

And the common factor between Ween and Tenacious D is that they share the same "supplier".
