i just got back a 45 cover i did for estrus. it's for a 'soul' instro group called 'the diplomats of solid sound'. the name of the single is 'pork chop'. so we decided to make it look like a doggybag from a soul food restaurant. kraft paper, serrated top edge, cheezy image, bad printing, out-of-style, and of course - the coup de gras - greasy fingerprints. we used a tinted varnish of fingerprints along the edges just like somebody had just eaten a porkchop with their hands and then held the 45. looks terrible/great.

puke purple vinyl, too.

any other great gimmicks out ther you wanna share? printing with blood? shitting on your scanner? bulletholes?

i wanna do a poster that only gives you the information when you fold it in. like the back of mad magazine. i haven't ever done any covers. i wanna start physically affecting the outcome of my stuff more, though.

and the reason i mention the fold-in is because i know it's not that original of an idea, and i don't feel like i'm giving away any big secret idea...

the first show my old band played was gonna be a house show where we practiced, and we knew a kid with 2 gallons of frozen pig's blood, and were gonna defrost a few ounces and splatter the handouts with it...smear fingerprints on it, etc... but some of the kids we told about it were so grossed otu they refused to come if we did it. so we passed. i wish teh kid with the pig's blood still lived in town.

Some friends of mine are going to package their next 7" in the bags of their favorite brand of potato chip.. they have an insider pal at the company. The band names will be printed to look like a "sale price" sticker that they'll just slap onto the bags.

edit: I told dusty about a thing I was gonna do for a 7" cover that never happened... if that b@$#^@*% steals it...

oh art... that sounds really awesome by the way... hopefully Reptilian will have that in stock soon

i think the idea of sandpaper inside the record sleeve is wickedly funny, and is one of the funniest gimmicks i think chantry's done. it's the same reason i like the fold-in idea-it's self destructive. take that, collectors. i was inspired by some electronic promoters in SF who put the party information inside fortune cookies. i think that's a great idea. get a cookie, and it gives you info. and hopefully winning lottery numbers as well. i'd love to think of something like that.

Apackage of tampons with the info on the wrapper...or on the tampon itself? Or how about BBQ the info onto a side of beef? Or, you could write it in suntan oil on a really fat person...lay them out in the sun for a day....remove the lotion and viola...big fat sun burnt poster.

i like bbqing the info into some beef-brand it into the flesh. but you couldn't really get it out there. i mean, it'd be pretty limited. have you seen the cost of meat lately?

Ok Ok, spread sugar water on the ground in the form of the info, ants go wil, ants create the info for the show, do this at coffee shops everywhere.
