we always picked on our drummer.

I think this is a popular theme amongst bands.

i noticed that drummers got picked on a lot. why do drummers never stand up for themselves?

They are kind of like goalies that way. Personally, I have wanted to have almost every drummer I have ever played with (save two) locked in stocks and flogged, thought it might do them some good. Maybe condition them in a Pavlovian kind of way.
