Default seeking professional advice from illustrators

so i was recently approached by a clothing company that was interested in me doing an ongoing series of shirt designs for them. i get to keep the rights to all of my work, so i can go ahead and do whatever the heck i want with them, which is good in my opinion. they gave me a couple of different payment options. i figure being payed per piece is the best way to go, my question is- how much is a reasonable price per piece?

Is it a local company for local distribution or a national company for wide distribution?

I'd say if you know they really sell the hell out of the line then payment plus royalties. I would never do just royalties as you can't always trust people to pay up once the monies in their pocket. Really depends on the company. If its a smaller company or start up I'd just go for bulk payment upfront. I think payment amount would depend on you, them and a few other unknown factors like if your name is also on the design...

For a major brand: 2-4 colors: would say $300-$450 seems reasonable. That's based on a non-royalty buy-in scheme. So keep that in-mind when you pitch pricing.

Good luck. Sounds like a fun gig.
