Default Permission to design gig posters; who to contact?

I am interested in creating a poster for a specific date on the upcoming Mastodon US tour. Would anyone know the logistics of getting this accomplished? Do I have to contact the band's management, booking agent, or individual venue to get permission, or can I just create one independently and just mail it to the venue? I'm not sure how fierce the competition is between artists to design posters for individual dates for certain bands, so any information that can be given would be of great benefit. Thanks in advance.

Fuck yes. DO IT! I'm mailing this drawing I'm working on to Pixar as soon as I'm finished with an invoice for $500,000 due upon receipt.

Just do one and reap the fallout....It's a once-in-a-week experience...

You have my permission, RIGHT NOW, but I might change my mind later.

make sure to cut to the chase and send a nice stack of the posters to mastodon's management, so they can share them with their lawyers.
