Obama artist makes plea deal in Mass. case

To say Fairey didn't alter or elevate the image is just silly.

the original photo was Obama and george clooney sitting on a panel about some issue thingy and did nothing to inspire and was not iconic in any way.

He totally gave the shot new meaning by recontextualizing it.

Should he have gotten the rights? yeah. Does he know better? FUCH yeah.

Does he care? He might next teime, but I'll bet maybe not so much?

I would say that SF edited the orginal photo enough that he shouldn't be getting sued over it. One of his big points he's trying to make in this lawsuit though is that the AP has many photographs featuring his artwork. Whether it's from cases where he was in trouble for pasting stuff up or from his gallery shows etc. So why are they allowed to take pictures of his artwork and sell them but he's not allowed to reference one of their photos for some of his artwork. It seems hypocritical.

warhol was commissioned to do a lot of that icon work. some obviously not, but the ones there wer not like monroe and others led to him landing huge jobs, the rolling stones crap for sure was commissioned.

I have a friend who had a detail of one of his prints sampled by Reuters. It got out there and he saw it. He got a cease and desist plus compensation.
