What it does it makes it sound like a dragster beast. You flip a switch (in parts of the South, we call it a Redneck switch; you occasionally find them on speed boats, too) and it bypasses all the exhaust and muffler systems to make the engine less filtered and MUCH LOUDER. Ergo, it is violative of noice pollution laws (and presumably of emission laws).
