galvanized metal could look cool, then it would oxidize to a dark grey over time.
but i don't know about the charleston climate and what any salt might do to it, might be good to have the paint on it to seal out some of the elements (though usually the galvanization will handle that...just inserting a CYA...or CMA as it might be) |

yeah, my neighbor went with the bare metal and it's now rusty is some spots. actually, a lot of spots. anyways, if i'm going to drop $10K on a new metal roof, it's going to have to last the full 60 years that they're rated for!

If you get any rain blowing in under the porch, I'd opt for the white (or a VERY slightly grey version of white). But would agree that it can be hard to keep looking clean/clear. As long as you're using a real outdoor, high traffic paint I'd think you'd be fine - it'll hold up to the occasional sweep and washing down.

i know everyone's been on edge about what color i would go with for my porch, and here's the winner:
![]() after about two weeks of rain and sun, the white primer looked pretty messed up (colorwise). there were stains from leaves and mud all over it, so i opted for a gray that was darker than the house color. it's a little more blue and lighter than i had expected, but this is only the first coat (it took forever to dry), so hopefully it'll darken up a bit with another coat. |
