what happened to that thread over on the poster comment board about that sex pistols/randy's rodeo poster? where did it go? did something happen that it had to be yanked?

there were dozens of interesting analytical observations and comments trying to authenticate it. i thought it was a fascinating exercise in gigposter csi.

so, why is it gone?

I was just going to post a thread asking the same thing. That was a really excellent conversation that actually pertained to posters and design.

I think it was fake. Clay hates fake posters and so do I.

yeah i'm pretty sure clay takes down all fake posters when they are reported.

i agree it should have been taken down but i'd dig if there was anyway to transfer all those comments to this side of the forum. great stuff.

the fakery of that poster was far from determined. it could easily have been real - and a very rare exotic find. all the information plastered in the thread was very open to challenge. it would take much more serious examination to be declared a fake.

unless some other things happened since i left the conversation.

anyway, i think it's a shame it was removed, 'cos it was a fascinating read.

Yeah, I'm not sure it could be definitely determined fake by the likes of us. It was indeed suspect but, far from conclusively determined fake.

i really liked the comments on that poster, interesting how much some of you know about font history.
