Converting line drawing - black line to white line?

    Hello all-

Wondering if any of you can tell me how to make a blackline drawing (scanned in @ 800 dpi grayscale) into a white line (w/ transparent BG)?

Basically I'm putting a line drawing over a photo in Photoshop & want the lines to be white. I bet this is simple---but I don't know how to do it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Select the background of the line drawing with the magic tool. Erase all the white background. Then invert the layer with the black line..... should work.

Yeah- I've done that. It seems to lose the crispness of original drawing. I think there's another way that preserves the exact detail of original drawing.
But I don't know how it works.

    Thanks for responding, though.

convert to grayscale, bump up the levels (cmd+l), color select, pick black, once it's selected duplicate selection (cmd+j), get rid of the background now, or turn it off.

There are a few good actions and plugins that remove white backgrounds from artwork and line drawings. Here's an article about one that I've used and where to dl (for pc only):

Wisnaes.com - Visual communication » How to remove a white background with the Remove White plugin

There's a couple other good ones out there, too, but I've got them at work.

You guys are over thinking it.

Paste the drawing into it's own layer---> Invert ----> Change layer mode to "Screen"
