If she's "just above the magic number" then her payments should go up only marginally. Obama is for raising taxes for income over $250000... so if she makes $260000, she'll pay 3% more (36 to 39%) of $10000, or $300 more than what she's paying now (roughly).

And the base tax for her is 40,052.25 plus 39% of anything over $164,550 (this is why we're hearing people like Biden and Gonzalas say the number is more like 150,000 because the cut off is closer to that number) so if she does make 250,000 that should come to around $73,370 bucks for working her ass off and putting off things she probably would have liked to do for getting ahead in her career. But hey that's ok, now the less fortunate can do the things they want to do on her dime. Now on top you can count 5-10% for all the groceries she buys plus any other taxes, property, gas, car. By the end of it she probably pays closer to $85,000 to support the common good. Now if one looks at those numbers as a budding career minded person who wants to work harder than the next guy, what's their motivation?

There is no way in hell Obama is going to be able to stick to his Tax promise anyway. Unless he pulls all the troops out the day he is put in office (which won't happen because he's pushing for a surge in Afghanistan , and making accusations about Pakistan), cuts back spending, and puts his health plan on the back burner. We're in too deep a hole right now to be lying to ourselves. He may be the best option of the two main dudes but, I'm just not optimistic his change will be anything more than a tag line 4 years from now.

how did you guys not loose your asses when our financial system/wallstreet took a crap? don't you have money invested?

eve and i lost about 40% of what it took us 15 years to save. it is probably chump change to you, but that was our retirement/emergency money for us. we live well within our very low income and thought we were making smart safe choices with what we could afford to save. and we got screwed big time.

we lost 63,000.00 in 2 days. well..we still own the stock, so its really a paper loss, the initial 'capital' in that portfolio is still intact, but it wiped at all the profit for the last 6 years.

luckily, we have the 'deep' retirement savings in really 'safe' stuff and it wasnt affected, but yes, it put a big hole in my plans to expand my company since we where gonna cash out that 60 K in December for next years production runs.

also, we have no debt other than a single monthly truck payment, so yes, we are buying more stock, as crazy as that seems.

now, a lot of projects will not happen.

actually, no, she gets all these weird options and stuff and her tax shit is really complex and the 'plan' will really screw her. Also, its a moral thing with her she has killed herself and basically put her life on hold for along time to be able to be where she is and the tax thing seems really unfair to her. shes no plutocrat or trustfunder, she earned every penny by working 100 hour weeks the last decade.

I did some research, and you're more correct than I was, but the $164XXX - $357XXX bracket is being increased to 36%, not 39%. And Obama's plan will "adjust the thresholds of these rates slightly to ensure that no... single making less than $200000 was affected by these changes." So I guess she'll pay 3% more of what she makes over $200000.

yep...combined we pay about 80-100 grand a year on taxes and we put ZERO demands on any sort of public money, welfare or health care. we pay for it all out of our pockets, dont commit crimes, have insurance, invest in businesses that provide employment etc...and they want more money from us to kill idiots or save junkies.I even fucking pick up litter on the sidewalk.

so in effect, we are being punished for being good, honest, productive citizens.
